Dialogue[]

  • [Max comes into the playroom licking a popscicle stick; it sticks to his hand. He joins Emmy at the table for some crafting with popscicle sticks and glue; she is making a log cabin while he is making a volcano.]
  • Max: Making stick art is sticky.
  • [He sits down and removes the stick, putting it on his volcano. He grabs the bottle of glue and pours a large blob all over the top to resemble lava.]
  • Max: My volcano is all done.
  • Emmy: Max, it would look a lot more like a real volcano if you put the glue on the sticks first, the way I do it, instead of pouring the glue over the sticks.
  • Max: But it already looks like a real volcano!
  • Emmy: Just watch me do it, Max. Like this.
  • Max: My way works just fine, Emmy! [adds more glue] I just need one more stick for the tippy-top. Except there's one problem.
  • Emmy: What's that?
  • Max: I just ate the last juice pop in the freezer.
  • Emmy: I bet Ord knows where there's more.
  • Max: Dragon Land!
  • Emmy: Let's go!
  • [Emmy gets the magic dragon scale out of the secret drawer and they hold it.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with Dragons, in a land apart.
  • [The wallpaper dragons spin around them and they disappear; at the School in the Sky, a fiesta is going on. A blindfolded Ord tries to find the piñata Zak and Wheezie are holding up.]
  • Cassie: Come on!
  • Zak: Go for it, Ord!
  • Wheezie: There you go!
  • Cassie: Come on!
  • [Emmy and Max appear.]
  • Cassie: Watch out! Come on!
  • [Ord touches Max's head; Wheezie laughs.]
  • Ord: This piñata feels funny.
  • Max: [laughs] I'm not a piñata! I'm Max!
  • Ord: [lifts his blindfold and hugs him] You're here!
  • Zak: You're just in time for the fiesta!
  • Wheezie: Parties! I looooove parties! They're so looney-ballooney! [laughs and snorts]
  • Cassie: Are you hungry?
  • Emmy: Definitely!
  • Ord: Then let's eat! On your mark, get set...
  • Max: Go!
  • [They rush to one of the buffet tables.]
  • Max: After lunch, can we have some juice pops? I need another stick for my volcano.
  • Ord: You betcha!
  • Max: [holding a burrito] These burritos are kind of messy.
  • Emmy: That's because you're not eating it the right way. You need to do it more like me. Like this... [she and Cassie eat their burritos from the side]
  • Max: [eats his burrito down the middle] My way works too. [eats a spoonful of guacamole and a nacho]
  • Emmy: Oh, no, no! Not like that! Like this! [dips a nacho in the guacamole and eats it]
  • Max: But my way is more fun! [licks his spoon]
  • Emmy: But it's not the right way! I wish you would do things the way I do them!
  • [Meowing is heard.]
  • Max: What was that?
  • [More meowing, it is coming from a nearby bush. A cat comes out and Max gestures to it while making a purring sound.]
  • Emmy: Not like that, like this: [gesturing] Pss-pss-pss. Pss-pss-pss.
  • [The cat backs away; the others come over.]
  • Cassie: What's happening?
  • Emmy: Max is trying to get the kitty to come out, but he's doing it wrong.
  • Max: That's the only way I can do it!
  • Emmy: The cat'll never come to that silly sound!
  • [He purrs again; begging to differ, the cat jumps out of the bush and lands in Max's arms. It is revealed to be two-headed.]
  • Max: It worked! I got the kitty to come out of the bushes!
  • Emmy: Aah! Max, look at the cat. It has...
  • Emmy and Max: Two heads!
  • [It purrs.]
  • Max: What's your name?
  • Cat's right head: Me.
  • Max: Hi, Me. I'm Max. And these are my friends.
  • Cat's right head: Me.
  • Emmy: [pets the left head's forehead] And what's your name?
  • Cat's left head: Ow.
  • Emmy: Am I hurting you?
  • Cat's left head: Ow. [purrs]
  • Cat's right head: Me.
  • Cat's left head: Ow.
  • Max: Oh, I get it! [pets the cat's back] The cat's name is Meow!
  • Emmy: Max, you're not doing it right! Cats like to be petted on top of their heads. Do it like me. Pet it like this.
  • Max: Nuh-uh! That's not the only way to pet a cat!
  • Emmy: Yes, it is.
  • [Meow then licks both Max’s cheeks, making him laugh. He suddenly stops laughing and goes into a trance-like state. Meow then leaps out of his arms and runs away.]
  • Ord: Max, are you alright?
  • [Max shakes his head.]
  • Max: Definitely! [walks to the buffet table] Yum, guacamole!
  • Ord: Don't forget your spoon.
  • [Cassie eats a burrito down the middle.]
  • Max: That's not the right way! Not like that, Cassie! Like this... [Eats his burrito on the side] Do it like me. [Cassie does so]
  • Emmy: Good job, Max! You're doing it like me. The right way!
  • Max: Yeah, the right way!
  • Zak: [suddenly suspicious] Uh, is it our imagination, or is something strange going on here?
  • Ord: Max seems different.
  • Cassie: Yeah. He’s not acting like Max anymore.
  • Wheezie: He’s acting just like…..like……..
  • Zak and Wheezie: Like Emmy!
  • Ord: Max? Are you feeling okay?
  • Max: Definitely!
  • Emmy: Uh-oh!
  • Cassie: Uh, maybe we should talk to Quetzal.
  • [In the School in the Sky...]
  • Ord: And then there were sparkles!
  • Zak: And the cat ran away!
  • Cassie: And Max looked all funny!
  • Wheezie: And Max started acting different!
  • Ord: Not like Max anymore! Just like Emmy!
  • Quetzal: Why don't we look in the Big Storybook?
  • [He sprinkles magical dust on the book, making it open to a page where an image of Meow pops out.]
  • Quetzal: Does this look familiar?
  • Ord: That's it! That's the cat!
  • Meow: Me. Ow.
  • Quetzal: Not just any cat; that is Meow, the Copy Cat.
  • Zak: The Copy Cat?
  • Quetzal: Sí, niños. In Dragon Land, the Copy Cat comes when somebody wants someone else to do things exactly their way.
  • Emmy: Oh no! It’s all my fault! I wanted Max to do things just like me!
  • Quetzal: And as soon as Meow licked Max, I’m afraid your wish came true.
  • Emmy: But now I don’t like it, because he doesn’t do anything like Max anymore. So how do I get Max to stop copying me?
  • Quetzal: The only way is to have Meow lick him again.
  • Ord: But the Copy Cat ran away!
  • Quetzal: Then you must find Meow. But finding Meow can be hard, because it can change colors and blend into its surroundings.
  • Cassie: Like a chameleon?
  • Quetzal: Exactly. Just like a chameleon.
  • Wheezie: What are we waiting for?
  • Zak: The search is on!
  • Emmy: Definitely!
  • Max: Definitely!
  • Emmy: [annoyed] Oh brother.
  • [Changes to a field somewhere.]
  • Emmy: Come on, Max. We should search the Dandelion Forest.
  • Max: Good idea, Em. Great idea! You always know exactly what to do. You’re way is the best way. The right way. The only way!
  • Emmy: Stop it, Max!
  • Max: That’s a good idea!
  • [Emmy rolls her eyes and groans in annoyance.]
  • Zak: Wheezie and I will search through Mushroom Meadow.
  • Ord: Cassie and I will look near Turtle Rock.
  • [Changes to Mushroom Meadow where Zak and Wheezie are hunting.]
  • Zak: Me?
  • Wheezie: Ow? Meow?
  • Zak: Here little kitty!
  • Wheezie: Where are you, Copy Cat?
  • Zak: Come out, come out, wherever you are!
  • [Meow appears from behind a purple and blue mushroom, having turned two toned lilac to match.]
  • Meow: Me. Ow.
  • [Zak and Wheezie hear and come right toward it.]
  • Wheezie: There you are!
  • [She tries to catch it, but it runs away.]
  • Zak: Come back, Copy Cat!!!
  • Wheezie: Meow!!!
  • [Changes to Turtle Rock where Ord and Cassie are.]
  • Cassie: Meow! I have some tasty treats for you! Snack time, Copy Cat!
  • Ord: We have rainbow corn and dragonberry juice! Come and get it!
  • [Meow appears from behind the rock having turned green and blue to match the grass. Ord slurps.]
  • Cassie: It's no use. The cat is gone.
  • [Ord throws up the rainbow corn; suddenly, Meow leaps at them into the air.]
  • Ord and Cassie: Huh?
  • [Meow eats all the rainbow corn and runs off.]
  • Ord: And so is my lunch.
  • [Changes to Dandelion Forest where Max and Emmy are.]
  • Emmy and Max: Here, kitty, kitty, kitty!
  • Emmy: Meow's not over here.
  • [Now Meow is atop a dandelion and blending in with it.]
  • Emmy: What do you think we should do?
  • Max: Whatever you say, Emmy.
  • Emmy: Let's see. How did you call the cat before?
  • Max: I think it was like this: [makes the purring sound from earlier]
  • Emmy: It’s not working. Now what?
  • Max: You decide. Your way is the right way.
  • Emmy: That’s not true, Max. I don’t always know better. You do a lot of things even better than me. Oh Max, I wish you were yourself again.
  • [The rest of the dragons arrive.]
  • Emmy: Did you find the Copy Cat?
  • Ord: No, but it found my lunch.
  • Zak: It's hopeless!
  • Wheezie: Oh, Zaky, don't be such a pouty-doubty.
  • Cassie: I'm sure Meow's around somewhere.
  • [Meow is heard meowing; they see it atop one of the dandelions.]
  • Emmy: There it is! Up there! Stuck in the tree! Here, Meow!
  • Max: Here, Meow!
  • Cassie: It's okay, just climb down! You'll be safe with us!
  • [Meow whines.]
  • Zak: Oh. Nothing's working.
  • Emmy: How else can we get the cat to come down? Think. Think.
  • Ord: The last time Max got Meow to come down, he did something like this: [makes a buzzing sound]
  • Emmy: I already tried that, but it didn't work.
  • Wheezie: No, no, no. It was more like this: [makes a scatting noise]
  • [Meow whines again while covering its ears.]
  • Zak: No, Wheezie! That's not it at all! It was much softer and sweeter.
  • Cassie: I think Zak is right.
  • Emmy: I have an idea! Max, let's play a game.
  • Zak: This is no time for games!
  • Emmy: Sure it is! It's time to play the What Would Max Do to Get the Copy Cat Down from the Tree game.
  • Wheezie: Looooooove it!
  • Emmy: Max would probably make that kitty calling sound. How does it go again?
  • [She makes the purring sound; Meow hears and perks up.]
  • Emmy: Can you play the game, Max?
  • Max: Sure I can!
  • [He purrs; Meow meows excitedly and jumps off the dandelion into Max's arms.]
  • Max: I got you!
  • Emmy: You did it, Max! You got the Copy Cat to come down!
  • [Meow meows again.]
  • Emmy: And I think Meow likes the way you used to pet it. Like this: [pets Meow's back]
  • [Meow licks Max’s face again.]
  • Max: [giggles] That tickles!
  • [Max puts Meow back down and goes into his trancelike state again. Once Meow leaves, Max wakes up and rubs his eyes.]
  • Emmy: Max, are you okay?
  • Max: Sure.
  • Emmy: You didn’t say ‘definitely’.
  • Max: [confused] Why would I say that?
  • Emmy: [innocently] Oh, no reason.
  • Zak: He’s Max again!
  • [Changes to Max and Emmy preparing to go home.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, to use this rhyme, to go back home, until next time.
  • [They are taken back to the playroom.]
  • Mom: Max! Emmy! I just got back from the market. Does anyone want a juice pop?
  • [They glance toward their stick projects.]
  • Emmy and Max: I do!
  • [They laugh and run out of the playroom before the view goes black.]
