Just the Two of Us is the first segment of the twenty-fifth episode of the third season of Dragon Tales.

Zak and Wheezie are working on a secret project, but they find it is easier to complete it when they let their friends help them with it.

Max and Emmy are in the playroom, with Max playing with a truck while Emmy is drawing a picture of a unicorn, when the dragon scale starts glowing.

The kids arrive in Dragon Land and are surprised to see Cassie carrying an umbrella with her when the sun is shining. She and Ord explain that Polly Nimbus is testing out her weather machine, so the weather will be changing a lot. The gang tries to figure out what to do, but they notice that someone’s missing: Zak and Wheezie.

Down in the knuckerhole, Zak and Wheezie’s parents bring out a box of Dragon Links building blocks that their mother played with as a young dragon. Zak decides to build a fort with them and Wheezie decides to make a sculpture. But they become worried when they hear their friends calling, as neither of them want anyone to see the project(s) until they finish. So to keep everyone busy, they decide to head down to the beach.

At the beach, things start out pretty well, until the snow and wind starts blowing in. Zak and Wheezie use this as an excuse to go home to work on their project. This leaves the others both curious and confused. But they decide to have fun on their own, by sliding down a spring rainbow into the snow.

Back at the knuckerhole, Zak and Wheezie try to put their bricks together into one piece, but it becomes too heavy to hold. Thinking that Ord’s muscles would come in handy, they decide to go ask him for help. When putting it together, they decide to make it into a robot. When they finished, Ord thinks that it looks like a rocket ship when turned on its side, which gives them a new idea.

As it comes close to completion, they try to get the seat in, but none of their hands are big enough to fit through a tiny hole. Ord suggests they get Max to help out, as he’s the one with the smallest hands. So Max comes in to help and is able to fit his arm through the hole to put the seat in. He also suggests that they can cover the wings with bedsheets.

Max also thinks the rocket could be much bigger if they build it outside, but Zak and Wheezie are a little cautious about it, worrying that it might break if they carry it or get wet in the rain. Ord and Max state that they could get Emmy and Cassie to help carry it and make a tent to protect it from the rain.

Once outside, Cassie and Emmy are amazed by what they made, thinking that it looks more like a boat, which once again changes their plans. As they begin turning it into a boat, Lorca comes along. Lorca is also amazed and impressed, and thinks that it could be something new: an all-weather adventure wagon. To do that, they all have to find a way to make it move. But since it’s too heavy to push or carry in the air, they need something to make it roll and slide. So Ord goes to the dragon dump to get wheels and skis.

After a while, they finally finish and take it out for a test ride. As they are riding, Zak and Wheezie realize that building the wagon was a lot more fun when they had their friends help instead of doing it all by themselves.

Once they arrive back in the playroom, Max suggests he and Emmy do something together, which is cleaning up the mess of the toys.

Memorable Quotes[]

Zak: How about that? My hand is bigger than yours. Even though your mouth is bigger than mine.

  • This episode, along with Cowboy Max, has aired in Season 3, when Enrique debuted in the show, and Enrique was noticeably absent in both of these episodes, although they were originally supposed to air in Season 2. Therefore, these episodes are a continuation error, since it likely seems that the gang has probably not even met Enrique yet.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Moral: It’s fun to do things by yourself, but it’s even more fun when you get your friends to help out.
  • The Dragon Links building kit is based on Legos.
  • Arlo and Polly Nimbus are mentioned but do not fully appear in this episode.
  • Zak and Wheezie's parents had previously been heard in "The Big Sleepover," but were entirely offscreen, just like Max and Emmy's.
  • While, like most adult dragons, their heads are not shown, the twins' mother's partly-open mouth and chin were shown at one point while Wheezie expresses her love of surprises and why that is.
