Memorable Quotes[]

  • Wheezie: Who will I be with?
  • Zak: Hello? Anybody home?
  • Wheezie: Hey! Zaky! I can be with you!
  • Quetzal: Over and under, it's easy to do. Reach through the hole, and pull it through.
  • Max: I don't wanna practice! I hate knots! They're stupid!
  • Zak: Oh, I think I'm gonna barfie-warfie.
  • Cassie: Isn't that the happiest pony you ever saw, Emmy?
  • Emmy: Definitely.
  • Max: Over and under, make a friend. Over and under, let's go 'round again.
  • Max: Quetzal was right. I can tie a knot.
  • Emmy: Hey, Max. Have you seen the plastic pony I got at the store?
  • (The answer is revealed when two and two are put together: Max has, in fact, tied Emmy's plastic pony to his balloon. She gasps.)
  • Max: Looks like your little pony's trying to run away, too, Emmy.
  • Emmy: Oh, Max.

Home Video release[]

  • When Emmy gasps from seeing her plastic pony toy being tied to Max's balloon, her mouth is shut and stays still.
  • The dragon scale in Ord's hand is still shining and its unusual color before Max and Emmy arrive. Once they do, however, and Ord is about to greet them, the scale stops shining and turns green.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Moral: Tying knots takes practice, so don’t give up. Keep trying and you’ll get it right.
  • Knot a Problem is the first episode where Ord, Cassie and Zak's voices are a little bit different. It is also the only episode where Emmy's voice is also a little bit different. Otherwise, Max, Quetzal, and Wheezie's voices are the same.
  • This is the first episode in which Max and Emmy don't travel home by the Dragon Scale on-screen saying the rhyme. This happened again later in "Frog Prints".
  • This and Ord's Unhappy Birthday are the very first episodes of Dragon Tales to have the 1999 PBS Kids Dash thinking ident, according to this program break
  • This is also the first episode to show the Dragons summoning Max and Emmy, by which the Dragon Scale glowed in the drawer.
  • This is one of the few episodes to not have a DVD release.
  • The friends sing a song sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle in this episode.
  • The name of the merry-go-round's youngest pony, Whinny, is probably used as a play on the word "whinny," which is the word for the act of neighing like a horse.
  • This episode was adapted into a picture book titled Max and the Missing Pony.
  • A key difference between the book and the episode is that in the book, only Max is riding on Ord when trying to get Whinny out of the gorge. However, in the episode, Emmy is also with Max.
