Dialogue[]

  • [The episode starts with Max and Emmy walking into the playroom. Max has a balloon while Emmy has a little plastic pony.]
  • Emmy: I love getting new shoes. Don’t you, Max?
  • Max: Shoes are okay, but getting a balloon is even better.
  • [Max wraps the string of his balloon to a chair.]
  • Max: There, now you can’t get away.
  • [But the string doesn’t hold for long and starts to unravel.]
  • Max: Hey!
  • [The balloon then hits the ceiling.]
  • Max: Come back!
  • [Max tries to reach it, but can’t. He then looks sad just as the dragon scale starts to glow.]
  • Emmy: Look! Someone’s calling us to Dragon Land.
  • [Changes to the two holding the magic dragon scale.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with dragons in a land apart.
  • [The wallpaper dragons spin around them and they vanish; in Dragon Land, Ord is holding his scale which he used to call Emmy and Max with when they appear before him.]
  • Ord: Max! Emmy! [runs up to them and hugs them tightly] You got my dragon call!
  • Max: Yeah, and I got a balloon too. Only it fell up to the ceiling.
  • Emmy: Why'’d you call us, Ord?
  • Ord: Because of that!
  • [Nearby is a magnificent merry-go-round with ornate horses.]
  • Emmy: What a beautiful merry-go-round!
  • Cassie: It's not just a merry-go-round. It's a magical merry-go-round. [Emmy gasps as she speaks]
  • Ord: Yeah, and it comes to Dragon Land only one day a year, and this is the day it's here, and it's the most fun thing to do in the whole wide world!
  • Max: Let's go for a ride!
  • Wheezie: We can't.
  • Emmy: Why not?
  • [Suddenly, the merry-go-round horses move on their own.]
  • White horse: Because we need your help, first.
  • Emmy: You can talk?
  • [The horses jump off the merry-go-round and surround them.]
  • Max: And walk?
  • White horse: My youngest pony, Whinny, has wandered off.
  • Ord: And the merry-go-round is only going to be here for today! And if we don't find her soon, we won't get to ride at all, and we'll miss all the fun, and the poor little pony will be lost in the dark!!! [sighs sadly]
  • White horse: Will you help us find her?
  • Emmy: Sure! We'll start looking for Whinny right now.
  • Quetzal: Un momento, niños! [walks up to them]
  • Emmy: Hola, Quetzal.
  • Max: Are you going to help us look for the little merry-go-round pony?
  • Quetzal: . But we’ll have a better chance of finding her if we each pick a buddy and look in different places. I’ll go with Whinny’s mother.
  • Max: I want to go with Ord.
  • Emmy: And I’ll look with Cassie.
  • Wheezie: Who’ll I be with?
  • [Zak knocks on her head like a door]
  • Zak: Hello! Anybody home?!
  • Wheezie: Hey, Zaky! I can be with you!
  • [Zak facepalms]
  • Quetzal: [handing Max and Emmy some rope] I've brought some rope for you so you can lead the pony back here if you find her. [ties a knot with his rope] Just make a loop on one end, like this, then knot it, like this...
  • [Zak and Wheezie attempt, but Wheezie accidentally ties Zak's nose. Ord gets the loop ready.]
  • Ord: Here's a loop. You tie the knot, Max.
  • Max: Okay.
  • [Max tries, but he only wraps the end of the loop around the rope.]
  • Max: There.
  • [Ord tests it; it gets easily untied.]
  • Max: Hey! Why'd you untie it?!
  • Ord: I didn't, Max! It untied by itself!
  • Quetzal: [peeks behind them] Problema?
  • Max: It's not fair! Everyone else can tie knots but me!
  • Quetzal: It takes practice to tie knots, Max.
  • Max: [gets down] I want to learn. Can you teach me, Quetzal?
  • Quetzal: Hm. Maybe I can show you a trick that will help you remember the first step in tying a knot. It's called "over and under." Hold the rope like this, Max. Then say this special poem and do just as I do:
  • [He demonstrates as he ties a knot.]
  • Quetzal: Over and under, it's easy to do. Reach through the hole, and pull it through.
  • Max: You really think I can do it, Quetzal?
  • Quetzal: It'll take a while, Max, but if you keep practicing, I know you can. Whinny's mother and I are going to look in the Stickleback Mountains. Good luck, niños!
  • Others: Bye, Quetzal!/Adiós!/Bye.
  • [Changes to Ord and Max in flight.]
  • Ord: Any sign of Whinny, Max?
  • Max: Not yet. [shows the following through his telescope:] Just a flying turtle... and a fairy... and a little horse... and a tree.
  • [Max realizes what he said and looks through the telescope again; the "little horse" is Whinny!]
  • Max: There she is!
  • Ord: Hang on!
  • [Ord lands.]
  • Max: She's over here.
  • [They search.]
  • Max: Maybe she's in that bush.
  • [They approach a bush; suddenly, Whinny appears and bumps into Max, startling him as he yells.]
  • Ord: Whoa!!
  • [Max flies into Ord, and he topples over. They stand and approach Whinny.]
  • Max: It's Whinny!
  • Ord: Don't be scared, little pony. We won't hurt you.
  • [Max pets Whinny; she licks him and he laughs.]
  • Max: That tickles!
  • Ord: Hooray! Hooray! We get to ride the merry-go-round! We have to tell everybody we found the pony so we can all ride!
  • Max: Right! [starts to leave but stops] But if we leave, the pony might get lost again. What should we do?
  • Ord: I know. You stay here, I’ll fly up high and find the others.
  • Max: Good idea.
  • [Max then gets hesitant.]
  • Max: Wait! I’m afraid to stay alone.
  • Ord: Okay, I’ll stay here and you fly up and get the others.
  • Max: Okay!
  • [Max tries to fly, except…….]
  • Max: Wait! I can’t fly.
  • Ord: Good. Because I’m afraid to stay alone too.
  • Max: What can we do so the pony won't get lost again?
  • Ord: What did Quetzal tell us?
  • Max: The rope!
  • Ord: Yeah!
  • Max: We can tie the pony to a tree, and bring everyone back here!
  • Ord: [gets the rope out of his pouch and hands it to Max] You betcha! [He loops one end around Whinny.] I'll make the knot this time, Max.
  • Max: No. I want to try again. [Guides Whinny away]
  • Ord: All this tying makes me hungry.
  • [He gets out a bunch of grapes from his pouch which he scarfs down. Max guides Whinny to a tree and loops the opposite end of the rope around the trunk, and tries to tie the knot.]
  • Max: Over and under, it's easy to do. Reach through the... Uh... uh... what was it Oh, like this!
  • [The end result is the rope end tied around the main strand, no knot in sight.]
  • Max: Got it!
  • Ord: [mouth full] Way to go!
  • Max: [climbs on Ord] We'll be right back, Whinny.
  • [Ord flies off; Whinny begins to walk off. Because Max didn't tie properly, the rope loosens from the tree trunk and she disappears into the forest. Up in the air, the others are in flight.]
  • Max: Emmy! We found the pony!
  • Emmy: Where is she, Max?
  • Max: We'll show you! Come on!
  • [Ord flies down and they follow. He brings them to the tree where he tied the rope.]
  • Max: She's right over here.
  • [They reach the tree; both Whinny and the rope have disappeared.]
  • Zak: I don't see any pony.
  • Max: She was right there! I tied her to the tree all by myself!
  • Cassie: Maybe your knot came loose again, Max.
  • Max: [frustrated] It’s not fair! I’ll never be able to tie a knot! Never!
  • Ord: Sure you will, Max. Quetzal said so. All you have to do is practice.
  • Max: I don’t want to practice! I hate knots! They’re stupid!
  • [Max just sits on the ground and pouts; Emmy goes over to notice the sun is going down.]
  • Emmy: Come on, Max, we have to find Whinny soon, or we won't get to ride the merry-go round!
  • Zak: But we've been looking for a long time! If I have to fly any more, my wings'll fall off!
  • Cassie: [sees something in the dirt] We don'’t have to fly. [spots a trail of hoofprints from where Whinny wandered off] We can follow Whinny's hoofprints!
  • Emmy: Definitely!
  • Wheezie: Now all we need is a "pony-finding" song!
  • [Zak and Wheezie get out a flute and snare drum from their pouch and play a song.]
  • All but Max and Cassie: ♪ Zak and Wheezie went to town, searching for a pony! Stuck a feather in their hat and called it macaroni! ♪
  • Ord: Mmm... I love macaroni.
  • [Whinnying is heard; they all stop and gasp as Zak and Wheezie bump into Ord from behind.]
  • Cassie: What was that?
  • Wheezie: Sounded like a little pony.
  • Zak: In big trouble!
  • Emmy: Hurry!
  • [They come to a ditch and find the rope that Whinny is tied to.]
  • Max: Here's her rope.
  • [He gathers up the rope, but Whinny is not on it; he gasps.]
  • Ord: But where is she?
  • [More whinnying; they look down the ditch.]
  • Emmy: There!
  • [Whinny is in the ditch; she tries to jump out but fails.]
  • Cassie: She can't get out!
  • Emmy: Don't worry, little pony! Ord will pull you up!
  • [Ord reaches down, but he's too big to fit through.]
  • Ord: I can't do it!
  • Cassie: But no one else is strong enough!
  • Zak: And if we try to climb down, we'll fall and crash to the bottom and break all our bones and --
  • Wheezie: [silences him] There must be something we can use to pull her up.
  • Cassie: I know! We can use our ropes!
  • Wheezie: Loooooove it!
  • Emmy: We'll have to tie them together so they'll be long enough.
  • Max: I can't tie a knot yet. You do it, Emmy.
  • [Emmy and Cassie do so; now they have one long rope.]
  • Wheezie: That should do it.
  • Ord: How do we get the rope around her?
  • [Much later, Ord has one end tied to his tail; Emmy and Max fly with him as he hovers over the ditch.]
  • Emmy: Down a little, Ord.
  • [The rope lowers a bit in front of Whinny.]
  • Emmy: That's good. Now step through the loop, Whinny.
  • [Whinny does so.]
  • Wheezie: She's through!
  • Emmy: Okay, Ord, pull her up!
  • [Ord begins flying upwards, which in turn starts lifting Whinny out of the ditch slowly.]
  • Wheezie: Oh, don't you just love this kind of excitement, Zaky?
  • [Suddenly, the knot tied to Ord's tail begins to loosen.]
  • Ord: Oh, no!! The knot's coming loose!!! What should I do?!
  • Cassie: Don't move, Ord! The rope might slip!
  • [Whinny drops down and whinnies in fright.]
  • Emmy: Maybe I can tie another knot.
  • [She crawls down to Ord's tail where the rope is tied; by now, the knot is almost completely loose. She grabs onto it, stopping Whinny from falling further as the others gasp.]
  • Zak: Do something!!
  • Ord: Quick!!
  • [Unfortunately, it is too tough for Emmy to tie the knot while holding it.]
  • Emmy: [grunts and struggles] I can’t hold the rope and tie a knot at the same time! It’s gonna come loose! Max, I need your help!
  • Max: Uh-uh. I don’t know how to tie a knot yet.
  • Emmy: It’s up to you, Max! I can’t do it!
  • Max: [hesitant] But I……
  • Ord: You just have to try, Max! You just have to!
  • Max: Okay, here I go!
  • [Max climbs down to help Emmy; she holds the rope while he tries to tie the knot.]
  • Max: Over and under, it’s easy to……do something? I can’t remember what to do.
  • Cassie: We’ll help you say the poem, Max! Ready? Go!
  • [Max tries again.]
  • All: Over and under, it’s easy to do! Reach through the hole……
  • Max: And pull it through! [He successfully ties it!] Look! I did it! I made a knot!
  • Emmy: Hurry, Ord! Fly the pony up!
  • [Ord successfully lifts Whinny out of the ditch; they bring her to safety as the others cheer.]
  • Ord: Got her!
  • Wheezie: Hooray for Max! He saved the pony!
  • Max: I'm sure glad I didn't give up, little pony.
  • [Whinny licks him; Changes to everyone riding the merry go round as it plays jolly calliope music.]
  • Ord: This is fun! Isn't it?
  • Quetzal: [laughs] Sí. I haven't done this since I was a niño myself.
  • Wheezie: Whoa! Don’t you just love going up and down and round and round, Zaky Waky?
  • Zak: [nauseous, groans] I think I’m gonna barfy warfy.
  • Cassie: Isn't that the happiest little pony you ever saw, Emmy?
  • Emmy: Definitely.
  • Max: [riding on Whinny] Over and under, make a friend. Over and under, let's go round again!
  • [Changes back to Emmy and Max's house; the kids have returned home. Emmy is looking around and Max has his balloon back with a smiley face drawn on it.]
  • Max: Quetzal was right! I can tie a knot!
  • Emmy: Max, have you seen the little plastic pony I got at the store?
  • [Emmy then sees that Max has tied the pony to his balloon, making it float up to the ceiling]
  • Max: Looks like your little pony is trying to run away too, Emmy.
  • Emmy: Oh Max.
