Synopsis[]

When Max is summoned to Dragon Land without Emmy, he must learn to fend for himself without his older sister as the gang embarks on an aquatic mission to help a sea dragon named Maui.

Plot[]

Max is playing with molding dough when Emmy informs him that she is going to the supermarket with their dad. Max decides he’d rather stay home, but shortly after Emmy leaves, the Dragon Scale starts glowing. He tries to call Emmy back, but it’s too late, as she has already left. Their mom asks Max if he is calling her, to which he says he's not. With Emmy being gone, Max is hesitant to go to Dragon Land alone, but realizing the situation may be important, he recites the rhyme and transports to Dragon Land.

Max arrives in Dragon Land and meets up with Ord, Zak and Wheezie, accompanied by a sea dragon named Maui. The dragons explain to Max that they’re helping her find her sister, Lenai. They ask him for his help, but Max thinks they should wait for Emmy first. However, Maui says that there’s no time to wait for that, as they need to start searching right away. Max is still a bit hesitant to join, as he’s never gone to Dragon Land without Emmy before. But his friends manage to convince him to stay and they all climb into the submarine.

While searching the lagoon underwater, Max believes to have spotted Lenai, but it turns out to be a jellyfish. The dragons start to get worried that Lenai might feel lost without her sister. Max begins to feel the same way, as he’s starting to miss his own sister. To make him feel better, Zak and Wheezie give him their picture of Emmy. Max feels a little better and decides to stay for a little while longer.

But as they start searching again, they find themselves caught by a giant octopus, who won’t let them go unless they play a game. So Zak comes up with a plan to distract it by playing go-fish. The card game seems to have worked. Once the octopus lets go of the submarine, the gang zooms off.

The gang keeps searching for Lenai, but still haven’t found anything. Max starts to miss Emmy again and wants to go home. Just as they were about to give up, the dragons realized that Max hadn’t thought about Emmy while they were singing and playing go-fish. So to cheer him up, they decided to make him captain of the submarine, which seems to have done the trick.

The submarine reaches an island, where the gang meets up with Maui. They tell her they haven’t found anything. Even Max feels disappointed that they hadn’t found Lenai, but was grateful for the submarine ride, realizing that his friends are what made him feel good, even without his sister. Hearing this gives Maui an idea.

The dragons and Max follow Maui in the submarine, where they find Lenai playing with some Doodle Fairies. Max feels a bit confused about how he helped, but the dragons explained that when he said he couldn’t have stayed in Dragon Land without his friends, that made Maui realize that her sister may have felt the same way, thus the reason why she was with her friends. They congratulate Max on his first solo adventure, not only because he helped find Lenai, but also because he was able to do it even without Emmy by his side.

Max finally arrives home just as Emmy does. She starts to tell him that she got to ride the big, blue dolphin (which was in front of the store's entrance). But Max starts explaining how he went to Dragon Land all on his own and went on a submarine ride to search for a missing sea dragon. However, Emmy doesn’t seem to buy his story (just because she got to ride the dolphin in front of the supermarket). That is, knowing that Max would never go to Dragon Land without her. Max then gives up and leaves. But when Emmy discovers the sand that came from his pockets (along with a seashell), she becomes convinced he was telling the truth and asks him to tell her more about his adventure.

Notes and Trivia[]

  • Morals:
    • It’s okay to miss somebody, but remember they will be back. And even if you feel alone, you still have your friends to help cheer you up.
    • While it’s nice to be with someone you look up to, you should still try to persevere and figure things out on your own.
  • Quetzal and Cassie are absent in this episode, making Wheezie the only female member (dragon or not) present in the gang, and Ord the biggest. It is also the third and final time Ord, Zak and Wheezie appear without Cassie.
  • This is the first time Max goes to Dragon Land without Emmy. The second time being in "Something's Missing," with Emmy going to camp.
  • Sea Dragons actually do exist in real life. However, the real versions are a type of fish that are the size of a seahorse.
  • Emmy is shown riding in the front seat of the car when Max sees her and their father leaving the house. In real life, it isn't safe for a 6-year-old to sit up front in a car, only in the back seat.
  • This is the second and final episode where Emmy was seen outside the playroom in her universe. the first being "To Fly With Dragons."
