This is a transcript of the Dragon Tales episode "Rope Trick" from season one, which aired on April 18, 2000.

Dialogue[]

  • [Begins in the playroom; Emmy is jumping rope.]
  • Emmy: Dragon, dragon, dressed in green, went downstairs to eat ice cream!
  • Max: [looking through treasure chest] Where is it?
  • Emmy: How many scoops did she eat? One, two, three, four!
  • [Suddenly, a remote control race car activates and drives around; Max screams and falls back.]
  • Max: Whoa! Oh... Found it! [finds the remote control for it]
  • Emmy: What's that?
  • Max: The remote control! Ord's going to love my race car!
  • [He tests it out.]
  • Max: Let's go to Dragon Land, Emmy!
  • Emmy: Definitely! I promised Cassie we'd jump rope.
  • [Emmy closes the curtains and Max moves his building blocks aside. Emmy gets out the dragon scale and they hold it.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with dragons in a land apart.
  • [They are taken to the School in the Sky.]
  • Wheezie: Whoo-hoo! Emmy and Max are here!
  • Emmy: Hi, everybody!
  • Max: Ord, check this out!
  • [He drives his race car for Ord.]
  • Max: I can even make it crash!
  • [The car crashes into a rock.]
  • Ord: I love, love your race car!
  • Max: I knew you'd say that.
  • Cassie: did you bring your jump rope, Emy?
  • Emmy: yep and I learned how to do "red hot peppers".
  • Weezie: Ooooooh! This I have to see!
  • Emmy: [jumps rope] Mabel, Mabel, set the table! Don't forget the salt and the red hot peppers!
  • Cassie: Wow!
  • Weezie: Oh, we love to jump rope! We do!
  • Zak: Yeah... we do.
  • Weezie: Will you teach us, Emmy? Will you??
  • Zak: Uh, we don't have a long enough rope Wheezie.
  • Ord: [looks in his pouch; takes out a shoe] Nope. [takes out a toothbrush] Nope. [takes out a jump rope with red handles] Here it is!
  • Wheezie: We're going to be so good at this, Zak! You won't believe it!
  • Zak: Promise me, Wheezie, no boo boos?
  • Wheezie: Promise.
  • Emmy: Okay, now. Watch my feet. [jumps rope] Turn the rope, round and round, turn the rope, jump off the ground!
  • Wheezie: Come on, Zaky!
  • Zak: Okay!
  • [They accidentally throw the rope backwards.]
  • Zak and Wheezie: Uh-oh!
  • [The rope flies through a window where Quetzal is reading.]
  • Quetzal: Huh?
  • [The rope knocks into a cabinet; one of the doors opens and a bottle spills all over it, causing it to jitter.]
  • Quetzal: Oh no! My special mixture!
  • [The rope glows; the gang comes inside just as the magic takes effect. The rope stands on its own.]
  • Ord: Wow! The rope is standing up!
  • [It bounces over to Max and pats his head; they try to catch it.]
  • Max: Get it!
  • Quetzal: Got it! Oh, no.
  • Wheezie: Come here, rope!
  • Max: Let me try!
  • [He drives his car; the rope chases after it and stops.]
  • Emmy: Wait, wait! Wait...now!
  • [She and Cassie grab the rope and stuff it inside the cabinet, slamming the door.]
  • Cassie: What happened, Quetzal?
  • Quetzal: I'm afraid my special mixture made the rope come alive.
  • Emmy: Do you have any other special mixtures that can put it back to the way it was?
  • Quetzal: No, Emmy. They don't work like that. The only way to change the rope back is to catch it, and jump over it three times in a row.
  • Emmy: I can jump three times! Easy!
  • Quetzal: I'm sure you can. Unfortunately, whoever spilled the special mixture has to do the jumping.
  • Wheezie: [laughs nervously] Guess that would be us, then.
  • Zak: We'll never fix the rope! We don't know how to jump rope! We don't even have a rope to practice with!
  • Quetzal: [gets a jump rope with purple handles from his pouch] You can practice with this rope, niños. I used to play with it when I was a young dragon.
  • [The cabinet shakes; changes to outside as Emmy demonstrates her jumping.]
  • Emmy: Remember, little jumps every time.
  • Wheezie: Cinchy! We're going to be champion jumpers! [she and Zak jump up]
  • Emmy: Uh, that'’s great. Now just do the same thing with the rope...
  • Wheezie: The rope? Oh, right, the rope.
  • Emmy: Keep turning it round and round, and every time the rope lands in front of your feet, jump!
  • Wheezie: Go!
  • [They twirl the rope; while Wheezie jumps, Zak doesn't and it hits his foot.]
  • Wheezie: You didn't jump!
  • Zak: I wasn't ready!
  • Emmy: It might help if you make the rope touch the ground.
  • Zak: Lower? Got it.
  • Wheezie: Ready?
  • Zak: Ready.
  • [They twirl the rope again, but it just hits the ground before them with neither of them jumping.]
  • Zak: Uh, Wheezie?
  • Wheezie: [sighs] We forgot to jump.
  • [Inside, Max, Ord, and Cassie stand by the cabinet where the rope is held.]
  • Ord: I don't hear a thing.
  • Max: Maybe it's sleeping.
  • Cassie: Careful.
  • [Max opens the cabinet door; the rope hops out and he grabs it before it could hit his race car.]
  • Max: What if the rope does something bad to my car?!
  • [Cassie tosses the car over to Ord.]
  • Ord: Got it!
  • [He puts the car in his pouch; the rope releases itself from Max's grasp and swirls around Ord before heading for a lunchbox in one of the cubbyholes.]
  • Ord: No! Not my lunch!
  • [Back outside...]
  • Wheezie: Okay, go!
  • [They try to jump; but now the rope gets stuck to Wheezie's foot.]
  • Zak and Wheezie: Whoa!!!
  • Wheezie: You jumped too late, Zak!
  • Zak: You jumped too soon!
  • Emmy: I have an idea! Try saying this when you jump. "Up, over, jump, jump! Up, over, jump, jump!"
  • Zak: That'll help. Ready, Wheezie?
  • Wheezie: You know me. Ready, Freddy!
  • Zak: Up, over...
  • [They twirl the rope back and forth, no jumping.]
  • Zak: Oh, I can't do this!
  • Wheezie: But you just said you could.
  • Zak: Not if you turn the rope too fast. You didn't even follow the words!
  • Wheezie: What's the big deal about following the words?
  • Emmy: But the words help you know when to jump. So it's easier.
  • Wheezie: Easier? Oh, I like that! Okay, Zak, you lead, I'll follow. Ah, I can't believe I just said that!
  • [They jump rope perfectly.]
  • Zak and Wheezie: Up, over, jump, jump! Whoo-hoo! We did it! We did it!
  • Zak: Uh, Wheezie?
  • Wheezie: Yeah?
  • Zak: The rope stopped.
  • Emmy: You have to keep turning the rope when you jump. And instead of one giant jump, remember, try two little jumps. Like this. [demonstrates] See?
  • Wheezie: Okay, let's try again.
  • Zak and Wheezie: [do so perfectly] Up, over, jump, jump!
  • Zak: Yes!
  • Wheezie: Loooooove it!
  • [Inside, Ord wrestles for his lunch with the rope. Max and Cassie pull from behind; he manages to pull the lunch out of the rope's grasp, but the rope bounces right outside as they chase it.]
  • Emmy: Uh-oh. Company.
  • Cassie: Keep on practicing! We'll catch the rope!
  • [The rope entangles itself over a swingset.]
  • Ord: You're not going anywhere! [grabs it] Whoo-hoo! I got it! [falls] Whoa!
  • [The rope is released when he fell. Max is on a bridge; the rope taps his shoulder.]
  • Max: Huh? [He gets tapped more; the rope takes the remote out of his pocket.] Hey!
  • [The rope activates the remote, causing the car in Ord's pouch to pop out; Ord catches it, and the rope bounces toward him.]
  • Max: Don't let it get my race car!
  • Ord: I'll save it, Max.
  • [Back at the school...]
  • Quetzal: How's it going?
  • Emmy: They're getting there. Definitely.
  • Zak and Wheezie: Watch! [they jump] Up, over, jump, jump! Up, over, jump, jump!
  • [They miss the third jump and fall, groaning.]
  • Emmy: It's okay. You almost jumped over the rope three times.
  • Quetzal: Sí, niños. Keep trying.
  • Wheezie: Now, little jumps...
  • Zak: Keep the rope low... keep turning it. Ready?
  • Zak and Wheezie: [jumping] Up, over, jump, jump! Up, over, jump, jump! Up, over, jump, jump!
  • Emmy: That was three! You did it!
  • Zak and Wheezie: Three! Three! Three!/Whoo-hoo!
  • Wheezie: Okay, Mr. Rope, we're ready for you.
  • [Now Max, Ord, and Cassie are checking the sandbox.]
  • Cassie: Where'd it go?
  • [It pops up between Ord's feet and pokes his crotch; he falls and screams, then it lands in his pocket as Max and Cassie gasp.]
  • Ord: Get out of there! Shoo! Shoo!
  • [The rope grabs hold of Max's car and zooms out.]
  • Max: Hey! [grabs the remote] Okay, rope, watch this!
  • [He mans the car long enough to bring the rope right to them; Ord catches the car with the rope tied to it.]
  • Ord: Gotcha! [unties it]
  • Cassie: That was really smart, Max.
  • Max: I love this car.
  • [Back at the school, Zak and Wheezie are holding the affected rope.]
  • Ord: You better hold on to it extra tight.
  • Quetzal: Remember, three jumps.
  • Zak: Can we do it, Wheezie?
  • Wheezie: I can...If you can.
  • Zak and Wheezie: We can.
  • Emmy: Okay, say the rhyme and jump rope.
  • Zak and Wheezie: [jumping] Up, over, jump, jump! Up, over -- [they trip and fall] Oh, oh, owie!
  • Wheezie: Oh, no!
  • Zak: Hold on to the rope!
  • Quetzal: No problema. Just try again, niños.
  • Wheezie: This time we're really going to do it.
  • Zak: Three jumps, coming up!
  • Zak and Wheezie: Up, over, jump, jump!
  • All others: One...
  • Zak and Wheezie: Up, over, jump, jump!
  • All others: Two...
  • Zak and Wheezie: Up, over, jump, jump!
  • All others: THREE!!!
  • [They all cheer; the rope glows.]
  • Zak: Ha-ha! We did it!
  • Wheezie: We really did it!
  • [The rope returns to normal.]
  • All others: Yay! Way to go! Hooray!
  • Quetzal: Muy bien, niños! You did a great job!
  • Wheezie: Thanks for letting us borrow your rope, Quetzal.
  • Zak: And here'’s yours, Ord. Back to how it was before.
  • Ord: [petrified] Oh, no! I'm not getting anywhere near that thing! It's all yours.
  • Wheezie: Thanks, Ord! Zaky, our very own jump rope! Now we can do this every day.
  • Zak: We can?! Oh, boy...
  • [They all laugh.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, to use this rhyme, to go back home until next time.
  • [They return home.]
  • Emmy: Hey, Max, watch this. [jumps] Dragon, dragon, jumping high, dragon, dragon, touch the sky. Dragon, dragon, Zak and Wheezie, now jumping rope for them is easy!
  • Max: You're sure a good jump-roper, Emmy.
  • Emmy: I could teach you. [hands her rope to him]
  • Max: Okay. [jumps] Up, over -- [gets stuck] Oh, no! [the rope ties around him] Whoa! Watch out! It's a wild rope!
  • [He falls.]
  • Emmy: Looks more like you fell into Quetzal's special mixture, Max.
  • Max: Huh?
  • [He notices and they both laugh as the view goes black.]
