This is a transcript of the Dragon Tales episode "The Big Sleepover" from season one, which aired on September 21, 1999.

Dialogue[]

  • [The episode begins in Max and Emmy's playroom. Emmy, wearing pajamas, sings a lullaby to her doll Lupita as she puts her in a toy bed.]
  • Emmy: [singing to the tune of "Brahms' Lullaby"] Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep little Lupita.
  • [Max enters in his pajamas; he plays the kazoo very loud. Emmy turns to Max and shushes him.]
  • Emmy: Shh! [Emmy gets mad and pulls Max's shirt, pointing at Lupita in bed.] Lupita's sleeping.
  • [Max stops and sees Lupita sleeping in bed.]
  • Max: Oh, I'll be very quiet. Let's go to Dragon Land, so Lupita can sleep.
  • Emmy: Deal.
  • Emmy and Max: [Scene change, the two are now holding the dragon scale and begin their whisper chant.] I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with dragons, in a land apart.
  • [The dragon drawings on the wall come to life and fly over to and spin around Max and Emmy. The screen turns white and cuts to the Stickleback Mountains at sunset. Ord, Zak, and Wheezie are outside the knuckerhole wearing funny slippers.]
  • Wheezie: Do you see her yet?
  • Ord: No.
  • Zak: She's not coming to our sleepover. I just know it.
  • Wheezie: Oh, it won't be as much fun if Cassie doesn't come!
  • Ord: I'm gonna miss her... [holds arms out] THIS much!
  • [Twinkles of light catch him off-guard, and he gasps; Emmy and Max appear.]
  • Wheezie: Max! Emmy!
  • [Ord lands and gathers them in for a hug.]
  • All: Whoa!
  • Ord: Hey, look who I've got!
  • Max: Hi, Ord!
  • Emmy: Hi, everybody.
  • Max: [laughs upon seeing Ord's bug slippers] Look at those funny slippers!
  • Wheezie: Don't you just looooooove them?!
  • Ord: We're having a sleepover at Zak's and Wheezie's cave! See? [takes things out of his pouch] I have my sleeping bag... [It falls on the kids]
  • Emmy and Max: Ow!
  • Ord: And my before-bed snack... [a sub sandwich] and my after-bed snack. [a slice of pizza]
  • Emmy: Sounds great! Can we come for a little while?
  • Zak: Sure!
  • Wheezie: You can even sleep over!
  • Emmy: Wish we could, but we have to get home. Hey, where's Cassie?
  • Zak: It's obvious. She's not coming.
  • Max: How come?
  • Ord: Maybe she's scared.
  • Max: Scared? Of a sleepover? That's silly!
  • Emmy: And how many sleepovers have you been on, Max?
  • Max: [realizing, nervous] Uh... none.
  • Emmy: I used to be scared to sleep away from home, but I'm not anymore. I'll go talk to Cassie.
  • Ord: Oh, could you?
  • Zak: Would you?
  • Ord: Could you?
  • Wheezie: Try!
  • Emmy: Definitely.
  • [Emmy goes over to Cassie's house. She knocks on the door; Cassie is at her bedroom window.]
  • Cassie: Emmy! What are you doing here?
  • Emmy: What are you doing here? Aren't you coming to Zak and Wheezie's sleepover?
  • Cassie: Oh, I don't know. [Emmy climbs up to her window; she gasps]
  • Emmy: Come on, Cassie. You'll have fun! Big time!
  • Cassie: I know. But I've never slept away from my mommy and daddy before! Ever! Not even one whole time!
  • Emmy: Well, what if you brought something to remind you of home?
  • Cassie: Like what?
  • Emmy: On my first sleepover, I brought Lupita. She's my favorite doll.
  • Cassie: Oh! Maybe I could bring... [leaves and comes back with a pile of books] Some of my favorite books! [catches the top book as it falls off]
  • Emmy: [laughs] How about just one?
  • Cassie: Oh, I could never pick just one. Wait, I've got another idea! [Puts the books away and returns with a pile of pillows] How about my favorite pillows? [Emmy shakes her head] Still too much?
  • Emmy: Definitely!
  • Cassie: Oh. I know! [She puts the pillows away and takes out a photo of her with her parents and two of her siblings] I'll take this picture of my mommy and daddy and all my brothers and sisters! [Unfolds it to reveal more pictures that tile out the window down the wall]
  • Emmy: All seventy-four of them? That'll work. Come on, you can do it!
  • Cassie: Okay, I'll try.
  • Emmy: Yes!
  • [Changes to the knuckerhole later that night; the sleepover is on! Laughter and cheering rings out from Zak and Wheezie's bedroom as Emmy, Max, Ord, and Cassie jump on the bed while Zak and Wheezie play a drum.]
  • Max: Wow! This is cool! Is this what happens on all sleepovers?
  • Ord: On all the sleepovers I've ever been to.
  • Cassie: I'm glad I came!
  • [An alarm clock rings; they stop bouncing and gasp.]
  • Zak: Look! Look! Everybody hear that?
  • Cassie: What?
  • Zak: It's almost bedtime. Let's get ready.
  • All others: Bedtime?!
  • Ord: We haven't even had dragon corn! I'll make a ton!
  • [He gets the dragon corn kernels out of his pouch and sniffs them; everyone braces for it.]
  • Wheezie: HEADS UP!
  • [They all scream and run for cover; Ord throws the kernels up as Zak and Wheezie duck and cover. He breathes fire onto the kernels, making them pop all over the place. Zak and Wheezie pop out as Wheezie eats a bunch.]
  • Wheezie: Mmm! Looooooove it!
  • Ord: [eats his]
  • Cassie: [as she, Emmy, and Max eat a bunch] Mmm! Delicious!
  • Zak: [takes a piece off his head] Isn't anyone tired?! Even a little?!
  • Max: No.
  • Wheezie: Let's play the Dizzy Game!!!
  • Ord and Cassie: Yeah!!!
  • [They all spin in circles.]
  • Emmy and Max: Wheeeeeee!!! [laughing]
  • Ord: Ohhhhh, boyyyyyyyy!!!
  • Cassie: [giggles loudly]
  • Wheezie: Come on, Zaky, spin!!!!
  • Zak: Why me??!! Why me?!!!???!!
  • Max: Whoaaaaaa!!!!!!!! I'm so...dizzy!!!
  • [Max falls on Emmy, and they laugh.]
  • Ord: Me too!!!
  • [He hits the wall, causing the room to shake and Cassie, Zak and Wheezie to scream and stumble. before knocking the stuffed animals over. One hits Zak on the head.]
  • Ord: Oops. Sorry, Zak.
  • Zak: Now can we PLEASE get ready for bed?!
  • Zak and Wheezie's dad: Everything really funtastic and wild in there for you kiddos?
  • Wheezie: Funtastic, Daddy! Goof-ball-o-rama!
  • Zak and Wheezie's mom: [As Cassie hesitates and takes out the photo of her family] Now if you need anything, dear, remember, we're right down the hall. Just a holler away. A few small steps.
  • Zak: Thanks, Mommy.
  • Emmy: What's the matter, Cassie?
  • Cassie: I miss my daddy and mommy.
  • Wheezie: Why don't you call them?
  • Cassie: Can I?
  • Wheezie: Sure!
  • [Changes to a ceiling phone horn; Wheezie gets it down for Cassie to use.]
  • Wheezie: Talk away!
  • Cassie: Hi, this is Cassie. Can you connect me to my mommy and daddy?
  • Cassie's dad: Hello? Cassie? Is that you?
  • Cassie: Hi, Daddy.
  • Cassie's dad: Are you having fun?
  • Max: [comes past, still spinning] Wheeeeeeeee!!!
  • Cassie: Sort of. I just wondered if you and Mommy miss me. I mean, I could come home if you want.
  • Cassie's dad: Of course we miss you, honey, but why don't you try and stay a little longer and have fun with your friends?
  • Cassie: Okay, I'll try.
  • Cassie's dad: Bye, sweetie.
  • Cassie: Bye, Daddy.
  • [The call ends and the phone retracts.]
  • Emmy: Feel better?
  • Cassie: A little.
  • Zak: Now, let's think sleep.
  • Max: Not until... [picks up a pillow and spins it around] PILLOW FIGHT!!!!!
  • [He throws it as Zak and Wheezie duck; all laugh and shout as they grab pillows.]
  • Emmy: Come on, Cassie! Grab a pillow!
  • Cassie: I don't know. I don't want to miss the fun, [The pillow fight stops!] but I miss my mommy and my daddy and my brothers and my sisters and...!!!
  • Wheezie: Aw, Cassie, don't go. In the morning we can --
  • Ord: [knocks Zak and Wheezie aside] Eat pancakes and waffles and toast and jelly and waffles and more waffles and more pancakes and more toast and....
  • Cassie: I want to, but I could never ever stay asleep all the way till morning!
  • Wheezie: Hey, hey, hey! I know! Why don't we just play all night long until the sun comes up?
  • Zak: Stay up?! All night?! NO!
  • Cassie: What am I going to do?
  • Emmy: Hmm... [she gets an idea] Got it! Why don't you do a half sleepover?
  • Cassie: A half sleepover?
  • Emmy: Yeah! For the first half of the sleepover, you stay and have as much fun as you can. And for the second half, when everyone goes to sleep...
  • Cassie: I go home?
  • Emmy: Definitely! You and Max and I can all leave together!
  • Zak: [yawns] Excellent idea. Nighty-night.
  • Cassie: Not yet! [grabs a pillow and throws it] PILLOW FIGHT!!!!!
  • [They all have a pillow fight and cheer. Cassie's pillow hits the ceiling, causing it to burst into feathers while Wheezie laughs and snorts. One feather lands on Zak's nose; he blows it off.]
  • Max: Batter up!
  • [He throws his pillow at Ord, who swings his tail at it, hitting Max so hard he flies backward and plows into Cassie and Emmy before they hit Zak and Wheezie and laugh.]
  • Zak: Is this a sleepover or an earthquake?!
  • [Later, Ord is making shadow puppets.]
  • Emmy: [laughs] It's a bunny!
  • Ord: Yup! Okay, what's this?
  • Cassie: I know! I know! It's a Rhyme Bird.
  • Ord: Wow, you're good! Now how about this?
  • Zak: [as he and Wheezie appear with a lantern] Wait! You said the bird was positively, the final, last one!
  • Ord: []takes the lantern] This'll be the positively, positively final last one.
  • [He hangs the lantern back up and makes a shadow that looks like a boat.]
  • Max: Wow! That's cool! Let me try.
  • [He steps up to the wall and makes a difficult shadow.]
  • Zak: And what is that?
  • Max: A rock!
  • Zak and Wheezie's dad: Okay, kiddos! Five minutes until beddy-bye time!
  • Zak: [excitedly] Beddy-bye time?! Beddy-bye time?!? YES!
  • Wheezie: [dismayed] Oh, Zaky...
  • Ord: [takes out his toothbrush] Teeth brushing.
  • [Zak and Wheezie brush each other's teeth.]
  • Zak: ♪ The front teeth. ♪
  • Wheezie: ♪ The back teeth. ♪
  • Zak: ♪ The your teeth. ♪
  • [Now they brush their own teeth.]
  • Zak and Wheezie: ♪ The my teeth. ♪
  • Ord: [takes out a pillow] Pillow plumping. My special pillow.
  • [Zak and Wheezie fluff theirs.]
  • Zak: Ah, no wrinkles.
  • [Wheezie tosses her pillow so it does have wrinkles.]
  • Wheezie: Perfect!
  • [Zak and Wheezie jump into bed. Ord struggles to get in his sleeping bag while Cassie rolls up hers. Ord finally finishes as Cassie is about to say goodbye.]
  • Cassie: Thank you, Zak and Wheezie, for my half-sleepover.
  • Emmy: Time for us to go, too, Max.
  • Max: Aw, I'm not even... [yawns] ... tired or anything.
  • Emmy, Max, and Cassie: Bye, everybody! Night!
  • Ord: Good night, Max!
  • Max: Good night, Ord!
  • Cassie: Good night, Wheezie!
  • Wheezie: Good night, Cassie!
  • Emmy: Good night, Zak! [no answer] Zak?
  • [Zak is already asleep and snoring loudly. Ord puts on noise-cancelling earmuffs and sighs. Cassie's badge glows to signify she handled her half sleepover.]
  • Emmy: Hey, look!
  • Cassie: My badge is glowing! I'm glad I tried the half sleepover, it was really, really fun! Maybe next time, I can do a whole sleepover.
  • Max: When I go home, I'm gonna try a half school day!
  • Emmy: [doubtfully] Good luck.
  • [Max looks knowingly; Cassie is leaving the knuckerhole.]
  • Cassie: Good night! [yawns] See you both soon!
  • Max: Night, Cassie!
  • Emmy: Good night!
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, to use this rhyme, to go back home until next time.
  • [They are warped back to the playroom in a flash. Emmy goes over to Lupita in her bed.]
  • Emmy: Now, Max, remember, be quiet. Lupita is still sleeping. We don't want to wake her up. Okay, Max? [No answer] Max?
  • [Max has fallen asleep on the chair. Emmy puts a blanket over him and he continues sleeping as the view goes black.]
