Dialogue[]

  • [Max and Emmy are playing a Twister-like game.]
  • Emmy: You're doing it wrong, Max! You're supposed to stand on the red one.
  • Max: But I want to stand on the blue one, too!
  • [They stumble and yell before falling.]
  • Emmy: Can'’t you just follow the directions?!
  • Max: Yeah. Can you?
  • Emmy: Uh-huh.
  • Max: Then follow me to Dragon Land!
  • [Changes to them holding the magic dragon scale.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with dragons in a land apart.
  • [The dragons on the wallpaper leap off and spin around them, and they vanish. In Dragon Land, the dragons are sitting in the treehouse looking bored.]
  • Zak: What do you want to do, Wheezie?
  • Wheezie: I don't know, what do you want to do, Zak?
  • [The door swings open, and Emmy and Max enter.]
  • Ord: Max! Emmy!
  • Max: Hi, everyone! We came to play.
  • Cassie: But we can't decide what to do.
  • Max: How about... finger painting?
  • Emmy: Definitely!
  • Ord: I'll get the paint. [goes over to the window]
  • Zak: [in a warning voice] Ord, whatever you do, DON'T take the paint on the bottom shelf behind the toy chest!
  • [Not hearing Zak's warning, Ord goes to the shelves, and gets out some tubes of paint from the chest. Just as he is about to leave, he is drawn to another basket of paint on the bottom shelf behind the toy chest.]
  • Ord: Wow. These colors are much prettier.
  • [He takes those paints instead; he brings it back over to the gang where sheets of paper are spread out.]
  • Max: I want blue!
  • Emmy: I'll take the red!
  • Cassie: And I the green!
  • Zak: Black for me!
  • Wheezie: White for me!
  • Ord: I'll use orange!
  • Emmy: This is great!
  • [They apply the paints; cut to outside the treehouse as the gang is heard laughing. Back inside, their paintings are finished and they are all covered in whatever paint they chose.]
  • Max: I painted Dragoon Lagoon.
  • Wheezie: It looks more like a blue baboon. [laughs]
  • Zak: Yuck! We have to clean up.
  • All others: Aww...!
  • Wheezie: No, Ord.
  • Zak: Good thing I always carry plenty of dragon wipes.
  • [He hands some to the others; but when they try to wipe off the paint, it only spreads further.]
  • Emmy: This paint sure is hard to get off.
  • Ord: You just gotta rub harder. Like this. [rubs his tummy, the paint spreads] Huh?!
  • Max: You look like a big orange! [laughs and puts the wipe on his mouth, the paint spreads]
  • Ord: And you look like you fell into a blueberry pie! [laughs]
  • [Zak and Wheezie wipe; their paint spreads as well.]
  • Zak: You're making it worse, Wheezie!
  • Wheezie: Well, you are too! [laughs]
  • Zak: [looks at himself in a mirror and screams]
  • [Changes back to outside the treehouse.]
  • Ord: This paint's not coming off!!!
  • [Changes to back inside; now everyone is entirely covered with paint all over.]
  • Ord: It's no use.
  • Zak: But that'’s impossible! The paint in the toy chest was water paint! [realizes] You didn't take the paint off the bottom shelf, did you?! Because if you did, we'd be in BIG trouble! It's permanent! It'll never, EVER come off!
  • Ord: I think I... took the paint off the bottom shelf!!!
  • [Changes to the School in the Sky where they consult with Quetzal.]
  • Zak: Can you get it off us, Quetzal?! Can you?!! Please?!!
  • Quetzal: I'm afraid not, Zak.
  • Zak: Oh, no!!!
  • Ord: I'll be orange forever!!!
  • Quetzal: Don't worry, niños. I can't get it off you, but you can.
  • Cassie: How?
  • Quetzal: Listen very carefully. Because you have to do exactly what I say.
  • [He opens his big storybook and uses magical dust to activate the pages showing what to do.]
  • Quetzal: First, you must collect a big bunch of fairy berries. Mash them all up, and rub the sparkling juice all over you. Next, you have to pick some tiger tree leaves and dry yourselves off with them. The third and final step is to make snow angels at the top of the Stickleback Mountains.
  • Max: What's a snow angel?
  • Ord: I know! It's when you lie on your back in the snow, like this! [demonstrates] And wave your arms and legs like this!
  • Quetzal: Exactamente! If you follow these instructions exactly, the paint will come off. But you have to do it in the right order, or it won't work.
  • Max: Sounds like fun!
  • Wheezie: Yeah, almost as much fun as getting covered in finger paint. [laughs]
  • [Changes to them in a field.]
  • Emmy: Let's get the berries.
  • Ord: I see a dragonberry bush right over there. Come on!
  • Cassie: Quetzal didn't say dragonberries. He said, uh, some other kind of berries, didn't he?
  • Max: He said blueberries!
  • Ord: No, I said you look like a blueberry.
  • Max: Oh yeah.
  • Wheezie: I know! It was hairy berries!
  • Zak: Yuck! I'd remember it if it was hairy berries. Quetzal said fairy berries!
  • Wheezie: Fairy berries, hairy berries, who cares? Berries are berries.
  • Ord: Good, then let’s get dragonberries, because they taste the best!
  • [Changes to the gang splashing each other in a tub of dragonberry juice and laughing.]
  • Wheezie: I just looooove mushing dragonberries! It's so "mush" fun!
  • Ord: DRAGONBERRY CANNONBALL!!!!!!
  • All others: ORD, NO!
  • [He makes a big splash.]
  • Emmy: That's okay. Quetzal said we're supposed to rub it all over us. And it's all over us.
  • Wheezie: And all over everything else too.
  • Cassie: But, we're not sparkling like Quetzal said we would.
  • Zak: Yeah, we're just covered with icky-sticky juice!
  • Emmy: Cassie is right. We must have done something wrong. We'd better go ask Quetzal again.
  • [Changes back to the School in the Sky.]
  • Quetzal: I didn't say dragonberries, niños. I said fairy berries.
  • Cassie: It's so hard to remember all the things you told us, Quetzal.
  • Quetzal: What if I make up a simple rhyme? To help you remember the steps.
  • All: Yeah! That helps!
  • Quetzal: How about this: Fairy berry, rub and be merry. Tiger trees, dry with leaves. Angels in snow, the colors will go. Now, try it by yourselves.
  • All: Fairy berry, rub and be merry. Tiger trees, dry with leaves. Angels in snow, the colors will go.
  • Quetzal: ¡Muy bien! I think you've got it.
  • Ord: Thanks, Quetzal! We'll get it right this time, won't we?
  • Zak: Ugh, we'd better!
  • [Changes to them back in the tub splashing with fairy berry juice and laughing.]
  • Max: Look, we're all sparkly!
  • Ord: What do we do now?
  • Zak: The line of Quetzal'’s poem was, "Find the trees, and dry with..." uh... leaves!
  • Emmy: What kind of trees?
  • Max: I think it had an animal name.
  • Zak: Max is right. It was some kind of cat.
  • Cassie: Lion?
  • Ord: No, no, dandelions!
  • Wheezie: I remember the poem: Dandelion trees dry with their seeds. Come on!
  • Zak: Uh... are you sure?
  • [Changes to Dandelion Forest; a dandelion is roaring angrily as the gang tries to push Ord towards it.]
  • Ord: Uh, do we have to go in?!! Dandelions make me sneeze, and when I sneeze, I blow their seeds off, and the dandelions get angry! And when they get angry, they roar real loud!! So I don't care if I'm the wrong color, I want to go home!
  • Cassie: Don't worry, Ord. They roar, but they don't bite. Help us gather some seeds.
  • [Ord follows them. Zak and Wheezie hold onto a dandelion as Ord reluctantly joins. The gang shakes the dandelions they're holding, making them shed their seeds.]
  • Zak: We have to dry ourselves off with them.
  • [Some seeds get all over Ord's nose like a mustache.]
  • Ord: Ah...ahh...choo!!!!
  • [Seeds fly all over the place, some land on Zak and Wheezie's heads. They take them and wipe their bellies, but the juice does not come off.]
  • Zak: Oh, I don't think this is how it's supposed to work!
  • Wheezie: [laughs] I'm...
  • [They go back to the School in the Sky once more.]
  • Quetzal: I'm sorry, niños. But I said tiger tree leaves, not dandelion seeds. "Tiger trees dry with leaves." Remember?
  • Zak: Oh!
  • Wheezie: Yeah.
  • Max: I forgot.
  • Emmy: Me too.
  • Ord: I guess the poem was too hard to remember too.
  • Zak: Oh, we'll never get it right!
  • Quetzal: Don't give up, niños. I'm sure we can figure out a way to help you remember the poem.
  • Emmy: It would definitely be easier if we didn't have to remember the whole thing.
  • Cassie: Yeah! Maybe we could each remember part of it!
  • Quetzal: Qué bien! Now you've got it! Max, Ord, why don't you try to remember the first part?
  • Max: We already know that.
  • Ord and Max: Fairy berry, rub and be merry.
  • Quetzal: Bueno! Emmy, Cassie, you memorize the second part. Tiger trees, dry with leaves.
  • Cassie and Emmy: Tiger trees, dry with leaves. [laugh]
  • Quetzal: That's right! Zak and Wheezie, you have to remember the last part.
  • Zak: Angels in snow...
  • Wheezie: The colors will go! I think we got it!
  • Quetzal: Perfecto! Now it should be easier to remember.
  • Cassie: Thanks, Quetzal!
  • Max: See you!
  • Cassie: Bye-bye!
  • All: Bye!
  • [They are back in the tub once again.]
  • All: Fairy berry, rub and be merry. Fairy berry, rub and be merry.
  • [Changes to them looking at tiger trees.]
  • Cassie: Looks like a tiger tree to me.
  • Cassie and Emmy: Tiger trees, dry with leaves.
  • [They take the leaves off the trees and wipe all over; the fairy berry juice disappears. So does some of the paint on Max's cheek.]
  • Max: Look, my face is coming off! I mean, my blue face.
  • Ord: What do we do now?
  • Wheezie: I remember!
  • Zak: Me too!
  • Zak and Wheezie: Angels in snow, the colors will go!
  • Wheezie: Go, go, go to the snow, snow, snow!
  • [They fly to the Stickleback Mountains where they touch down and make snow angels and laugh.]
  • Ord: I'm a snow angel!
  • Wheezie: And I'm a snow blower! [laughs splatters snow everywhere] Yeah!
  • Zak: [shakes snow off his face] Hey, watch it!
  • All: Angels in snow, the colors will go! Angels in snow, the colors will go!
  • [Max's paint washes off, turning him right back to his normal clean self.]
  • Max: I'm my right color again!
  • [The others have returned to normal as well; they voice happy comments.]
  • Ord: We followed Quetzal's directions exactly and it worked!
  • Wheezie: Yeah! Now what you have to do is follow my instructions exactly.
  • Zak: What instructions?
  • Wheezie: [holds up a snowball] Duck!
  • [She throws it; Zak ducks and it lands in Ord's face; this in turn cues a snowball fight as everyone laughs.]
  • Emmy and Max: [voiceover] I wish, I wish, to use this rhyme, to go back home until next time.
  • [Changes back to the playroom some time later as Max and Emmy return home.]
  • Emmy: Good thing we cleaned that paint off of us before we got home.
  • Max: Yeah. [pauses] Emmy?
  • Emmy: What?
  • Max: [brings something over] Are you sure we got all the paint off?
  • Emmy: Definitely.
  • Max: Then what are those?
  • [Colored footprints from the game are all over the carpet.]
  • Emmy: Oh, no! That Dragon Land paint will never come off the carpet!
  • Max: [takes one of the footprints off] Fooled you!
  • [They laugh and the view goes black.]
