This is a transcript of the Dragon Tales episode "Zak Takes A Dive" from season one, which aired on January 27, 2000.

Dialogue[]

  • [Emmy is in the playroom, wearing her swimsuit and packing her beach bag.]
  • Emmy: Beach towels...sunscreen...
  • [Looks over at Max, also in a swimsuit and wearing a diving mask and pretending to swim on the floor.]
  • Emmy: Uh, Max? What are you doing?
  • Max: I'm swimming! I can't wait!
  • Emmy: Then let's go find some water!
  • [Fades to them holding the magic dragon scale.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, with all my heart, to fly with Dragons in a land apart.
  • [The dragons on the wall come to life and spin around Emmy and Max, teleporting them to Dragon Land. Fades to the Dragon Land lake; Cassie is swimming on her kickboard.]
  • Quetzal: That's right, Cassie! Keep kicking!
  • Cassie[giggles] I'm going in a circle!
  • Ord: And a 1, and a 2, and 3!!!
  • Emmy and Max[all wet] Hi, everybody!
  • Cassie: Come in! the water's great.
  • Quetzal: Ord, por favor, leave some water in the lake for the others.
  • Max: Come on, let's make a big splash like Ord.
  • Quetzal: Don't forget to put on your Dragon Wings!
  • Max: Dragon Wings? Cool! [Ord puts the dragon wings on Max's arms and giggles, and Max jumps into the lake.]
  • Emmy: Where are Zak and Wheezie?
  • Cassie: Over there.
  • Zak: Careful, Wheezie! We almost got wet.
  • Wheezie: Well, that’s why we’re here.
  • Zak: I’m not ready! Besides [Sniffling] I think I’m catching a cold.
  • Wheezie: Oh, Zaky. Swimming will be so fun! It’ll be like taking a bath with our best friends! Except, there won’t be any soap.
  • Zak: But the soap’s my favorite part!
  • Emmy and Cassie: Ring around the rosy, a pocket full of posies. Ashes! Ashes! We all fall down! [They laugh when Emmy pops up with seaweed on her head.]
  • Cassie: Hey. [They get splashed by Ord and join in the splashing.]
  • Emmy: Come on!
  • Cassie: Come swimming!
  • Ord: Come play!
  • Max: Yeah!
  • Zak: That water looks awfully cold. I bet I won’t like swimming one bit.
  • Wheezie: How do you know unless you try?
  • Zak: I just know!
  • Wheezie: That’s what you always say about new things. Like the first time you went down the slide and the first time you had a sleepover and the first time you ate a dragonberry.
  • Zak: [annoyed] Okay! Okay!
  • Wheezie: You didn’t want to do them, but you liked them after you tried them.
  • Zak: Fine. [puts on diving goggles, a nose plug, and dragon wings.] Ugh, let's get this over with! [They dip their feet in the water.] Oh, not so fast!
  • Wheezie: Well, doesn't the water feel nice? Just a few more steps. Let's swim to the rock! [She and Zak start swimming to the rock, but spin off course and Zak sputters.] We didn't get very far.
  • Zak: See? I knew we'd look silly. I bet everybody's laughing at us.
  • Wheezie: Aw, nobody's laughing, Zaky.
  • Zak: But they will! Come on Wheezie. Time to get out.
  • Wheezie: But Zak, we just got in!
  • Zak: I don’t like swimming and swimming doesn’t like me! Dragons can sing, and fly and breathe fire! Why do we have to swim?
  • Quetzal: You know, Zak. It can be fun to try new things.
  • Cassie: Please come back in the water.
  • Max: Let's swim to the island. [starts swimming.]
  • Emmy: Come on, everybody. [starts swimming.]
  • Cassie: Wait for me! [takes a deep breath, jumps in, and starts swimming.]
  • Ord: Ready or not, here I come! [takes another flying dive, and Max, Emmy and Cassie laugh, and Zak and Wheezie get splashed.]
  • Wheezie: *laugh* I'm all drippy. [shakes off all the water and Zak tries to shake all the sand off his foot.]
  • Zak: Ooh, I'm all itchy.
  • Wheezie: Well, why don't we wash the sand off in the water?
  • Zak: Uh, I can't. The sun is too bright.
  • Wheezie: Wanna borrow my sunglasses?
  • Zak: No, I really wanna go home.
  • Wheezie: *sigh* Okay, Zaky. [She and Zak take off.] We have to go home now.
  • Emmy: You just got here.
  • Max: Don't go.
  • Quetzal: We'll be right here if you want to come back, niños.
  • Cassie: Bye, Wheezie!
  • Ord: See ya!
  • Emmy: Bye, Zak!
  • Max: See ya later!
  • Zak: Wheezie, I really wish I could swim, but I just look too silly.
  • [Just then, Shelly swoops through a cloud and brushes by Zak and Wheezie.]
  • Wheezie: What was that?
  • Shelly: [She loops, swoops up and down, does a tail spin, and gets dizzy.] Uh oh! Here I go again! [A mushroom bounces her high into the air and she huddles into her shell when she falls to the ground.]
  • Wheezie: Wow! Come on, Zak!
  • Zak: Wheezie!
  • Shelly: [stops spinning, pops out of her shell, and shakes off her dizziness.] Hi. I'm Shelly. Who are you?
  • Zak: I'm Zak, and this is my sister, Wheezie. Don't you have any boo-boos?
  • Shelly: Oh, no. I'm fine. Just a little dizzy. I'm learning to fly, and I fall all the time. But I'm getting better. You should have seen me yesterday.
  • Zak: Why does she wanna fly when she's so bad at it?
  • Shelly: Because it's fun. Watch this. [She takes off, loops, does another tail spin, and gets dizzy again.] Whoa! [She lands on a big mushroom and rubs herself.] Uh-oh. [She swims back ashore, shakes off all the water, and splashes Zak accidentally, and Wheezie laughs.] Pretty good, huh? I've been practicing.
  • Zak: Don't you feel silly when you mess up?
  • Shelly: Sometimes, but flying is so much fun it's better to look silly trying than to not fly at all.
  • Zak: I wish I could be more like you.
  • Shelly: But dragons are great at flying.
  • Zak: I know. We can fly, but I wish I could swim like a turtle.
  • Wheezie: I know! Why don’t we give Shelly flying lessons?
  • Zak: And you can give us swimming lessons! What do you think?
  • Shelly: Deal!
  • Wheezie: That's it, Shelly. Keep your head up.
  • Shelly: [turns upside down.] Uh oh. Now what?
  • Wheezie: Tilt to the side! [Shelly turns back right side up.] Good job!
  • Shelly: How'd I do that?
  • Wheezie: Flap your wings harder!
  • Shelly: Yea, me! I'm flying better already! There's the perfect spot.
  • Zak: For what?
  • Shelly: Your swimming lessons.
  • [They land by the lake and start their swimming lesson.]
  • Shelly: Zak, if you wanna swim, you have to put your face in the water, and blowing bubbles is a good way to learn.
  • Wheezie: Bubbles? Ooh, sounds like fun. I'll go first. [She takes a deep breath, puts her face in the water, and blows bubbles, and Zak is a little nervous.] *laugh* Love it!
  • Shelly: It's your turn, Zak.
  • Zak: Okay. But don't laugh at me.
  • Wheezie: Why would we do that? [Zak puts on his diving goggles, takes a deep breath, blows bubbles, and puts his head underwater, and a fish swims by.] Yea!
  • Zak: Hey, I did it!
  • Wheezie: My brother, the bubblehead.
  • Shelly: Now you're ready for lesson number two: arm strokes.
  • [Zak and Wheezie circle their arms.]
  • Wheezie: Was that better?
  • Zak: No! We didn't go anywhere. Oh, we'll never be good swimmers.
  • Shelly: Sure, you will.
  • Zak: Then why aren't we moving in the water?
  • Shelly: I have an idea. [She picks a flower to use as an announcement speaker.] Wheezie, show me your arm. [Wheezie holds up her arm.] Good! Now, Zak, show me your arm. [Zak holds up his arm.] Good! Now do it again. Wheezie? [Wheezie holds up her arm again.] Now Zak. [Zak holds up his arm again.] Perfect! Now here’s the trick, take turns. Because if you lift up both arms at the same time, guess what will happen: Nothing!
  • Zak: You mean we won’t swim?
  • Shelly: Exactly.
  • Wheezie: One, two. One, two.
  • Zak: Me, you. Me, you. [He and Wheezie start swimming forward.] Hey, Wheezie, it's working!
  • Wheezie: One, two. One, two. Me, you. Me, you.
  • Zak: Hey, this is fun!
  • Shelly: And remember to kick your feet very fast.
  • Zak: We swam! I swam, and you swam!
  • Shelly: You two are a great swim team.
  • Zak: What do you say, Wheezie? Wanna go back and swim with our friends?
  • Wheezie: Love to.
  • Zak: Thanks, Shelly, for everything.
  • Shelly: You're welcome. And thanks for the flying lesson.
  • Zak and Wheezie: Bye, Shelly!
  • [Emmy, Max, Ord, and Cassie are building a sand castle.]
  • Emmy: Oh, look who's coming.
  • [Zak and Wheezie swim over.]
  • Ord: And they're swimming!
  • Max: Zak! Wheezie!
  • Wheezie: Hi, everybody.
  • Zak: We wanted to swim with you.
  • Quetzal: Bueno, niños.
  • Max: But I thought you hated swimming.
  • Zak: I tried it, and I liked it, and now I'm ready to try something else new.
  • Wheezie: Ooh, like what?
  • Zak: Like splash fight! [Everyone plays splash fight.]
  • Emmy and Max: I wish, I wish, to use this rhyme, to go back home, until next time. [They return home in the playroom with all the lights off. Max then goes over to the table and turns on the desk lamp.]
  • Emmy: Max? Now what are you doing?
  • [Max just lies down on the floor, facing the light.]
  • Emmy: Floating on your back?
  • Max: Course not. There’s no water. I’m sunbathing.
  • [Max puts on his sunglasses and continues lying down.]
